NFL: Dime Package for Week 1. Ten Thoughts on the Week That Was in the NFL

Matt Patricia’s tenure in Detroit didn’t exactly get off to a rousing start.

The 2018 NFL season kicked off this past weekend and it was a mix bag of close games and blow outs. Here are ten thoughts on the week that was in the NFL.

1.Steelers running back James Connor had a great day against the Browns but it was the Browns defense. If he has another big game this week, then the Steelers might have a suitable replacement for LeVeon Bell

2. So much for Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski being rusty huh? When you are that good, you don’t need OTA’s.

3. To all you people out there who are adamant that the Atlanta Falcons are Super Bowl contenders, they are not. Especially now that safety Keanu Neal and linebacker Deion Jones are out for the season.

4. I had a feeling the Buccaneers were going to beat the Saints in New Orleans. They always give them problems in the Big Easy. New Orleans defense has reverted back to their 2015 form and if that is the case for the reminder of the season, the Saints will struggle to win eight games.

5. Andrew Luck looked good in his return but the Colts don’t play any defense and they can’t run the ball thus Luck got hung with the loss.

6. The Cowboys have a lot of problems offensively. Dak Prescott has regressed, there isn’t a number one receiver or tight end on the roster and the offensive line is banged up. Other than that, they have Ezekiel Elliott which is a pretty good building block.

7. The Redskins thumping the Cardinals is one of the more underrated story lines of week one. I know it is only one week, but the Redskins look legit with Alex Smith and Adrian Peterson as the centerpieces of their offense.

8. Despite Aaron Rodgers second half heroics, I still think the Packers are a flawed football team. Rodgers can’t play defense and he can’t bail them out every week.

9. I know it’s early but Matt Patricia already looks like a bad hire in Detroit. I have said it all along. I don’t see the fit.  I don’t think he has pieces that he likes on either side of the ball, particularily at the skill positions.

10. The Rams got off to a slow start but once they settled in and got into a rhythm offensively, they destroyed thew undermanned Raiders.
