Yeah I know we’re a little late to the pick party, but we dithered back and forth as to whether or not we wanted to do picks. Well, we decided we are. So here are Patriots, college and high school picks for the weekend.
Patriots at Packers
John: No Mac, no chance. Green Bay is not what they once were offensively but they’ll score enough to win what should be a close game.
Kevin: This isn’t the same Green Bay offense that has terrorized teams for almost two decades, but the Patriots simply haven’t shown they can keep up with a QB Like Rodgers. Green Bay by 10
Adam: If Mac really is out, then it’s hard to pick the Pats here. Packers win.
Colleges
Louisville at B.C
John: I have faith in Jeff Hafley and this team. They need a win in the worst way and they’ll get it done this week.
Kevin: Until the Eagles prove they can score points and stop a very good quarterback, I’m taking Louisville.
Adam: The Eagles turn it around this week and get the W.
Holy Cross at Harvard (Yolked Game of the Week)
John: Harvard has had the Crusaders number in recent years but that ends this weekend. Holy Cross proves why they are the best team in the region with a big road win.
Kevin: This is my favorite game at any level this weekend and our Yolked Game of the Week. This is literally a coin flip game for me, but I just can’t bet against Coach Chesney and the Crusaders right now. Holy Cross in a tight one, possibly overtime.
Adam: Love Harvard, but think Holy Cross is on more of a roll. Crusaders win.
UMass at E. Michigan
John: Eastern Michigan is not as bad as they once were. They won at Arizona State two weeks ago. Look for the Minutemen to play tough for a half but fall short once again.
Kevin: UMass is showing some fight and there’s numbers that show this team is improving, but I’m just not sure this offense (like BC) can keep up. Eastern Michigan by 7 or 10.
Adam: Another UMass loss, but maybe more competitive here.
Fresno St. at UConn
John: The Huskies are decimated with injuries. I think they’ll play tough but they won’t have enough to beat the Bulldogs at home.
Kevin: Rough days for UConn during this rebuild and they’ll unfortunately continue this weekend. Bulldogs win this one fairly easily.
Adam: Fresno is a good team and UConn is still building.
Brown at URI
John: I think this year’s match up will be much more competitive than recent years but the Rams just have too many weapons to stop. I’m going with the Fighting Flem’s to win the Governor’s Cup again.
Kevin: URI wins this one in a shootout. Brown isn’t as bad as people thought and URI is obviously a top 25 FCS team for a reason. Could be an instant classic.
Adam: URI should win, but Brown will keep it close.
UNH at W. Michigan
John: Wildcats look like a legit CAA contender. I think they hang tough for four quarters but fall short against a Western Michigan team that has a little more talent.
Kevin: UNH could pull off the upset, but I think there’s just a little too much of a talent gap here. Wildcats fall in a close one, by three points.
Adam: An FBS opponent is always tough, so I’ll go with Western Michigan, but UNH will compete.
Penn at Dartmouth
John: The Big Green face a stiff test against the undefeated Quakers but give me Dartmouth to bounce back after a tough loss with a big win.
Kevin: Dartmouth needs this one after an ugly loss to Sacred Heart. Could sneaky be one of the best games of the weekend, Big Green win on a late field goal.
Adam: The Big Green bounce back here.
High Schools
Bishop Hendricken at CM
John: The Hawks are good but not good enough. Catholic Memorial dominates once again and wins big.
Kevin: CM is the best team in the state and possibly all of New England. That gets proven again this weekend.
Adam: Hendricken is good, but CM is too much.
St. Mary’s at Bishop Fenwick
John: This should be a great game but I have hard time picking against David Brown and the Spartans. Give me St. Mary’s.
Kevin: Bishop Fenwick wins a close one (yes, I’m picking a lot of games to have tight finishes this weekend.)
Adam: Both good teams here, but St. Mary’s is a little more explosive.
Walpole at Milton
John: I expect a shootout. Milton has has Walpole’s number in recent years and I expect that trend to continue this year despite how good Walpole is. Give me the Cats.
Kevin: Arguably the best high school game of the weekend in Massachusetts, I’m taking Walpole here after seeing their fight, coming back to beat Wellesley late last week. The Timberwolves get to 4-0.
Adam: A great game, and I was impressed with Walpole when I saw them. Going with the Timberwolves here.
Taunton at King Philip
John: The Warriors face a much improved Taunton team this week. Expect this to be a tight game for four quarters but I’m taking the Warriors to edge out the Tigers once again.
Kevin: Hard to go against KP right now, especially after what they did to Xaverian.
Adam: KP is on a roll, and will survive a test from a good Taunton team.
Grafton at Marlborough (Gold Athletics Game of the Week)
John: Tyson Thomas. Name to remember in this match up. He’s been a dude thus far this season and will a big impact in this game. I’m going Grafton in what should be a great game.
Kevin: A huge matchup in Central Massachusetts on Friday night, give me the Panthers here as Sean Mahoney’s crew gets to 4-0.
Adam: Grafton might be the best team in Central Mass. (although Wachusett might have something to say about that). Gators win.
LaSalle Academy at St. John’s Prep
John: The Rams are battle tested and healthy. This could be a really good game. Despite that, I just don’t think LaSalle will have enough to beat the Prep. I’m taking St. John’s in this one.
Kevin: P-R-E-P, Prep, Prep, Prep.
Adam: This should be an interesting battle, but hard to pick against the Prep here.
Plymouth South at Hanover
John: Casious Johnson might just be the most dangerous offensive player in the state. That being said. Hanover quarterback Ben Scalzi is quickly becoming one of the best quarterbacks in the state. Couple that with the Hawks being at home and I’m taking Hanover.
Kevin: Another great matchup this weekend, give me Plymouth South in an overtime game.
Adam: I like Plymouth South, but going with Hanover here in what should be an even battle.
Loomis Chaffee at Avon Old Farms
John: One of the best games in this country this weekend. So much talent on the field. I’m going with Loomis on the road in what could be a classic.
Kevin: Connecticut has one of the top games not just in the region this weekend, but the entire country. A lot of eyes will be on this one, I’m taking Loomis but could easily see this one going either way.
Adam: Loomis might be the most talented team in the NEPSAC, so will go that way here.
