After the first full weekend with all 17 New England teams playing last Saturday, two programs are on byes for Week 4.
Here’s a quick run down of an intriguing slate coming up…
Friday 9/25
Harvard @ Brown (7:00 p.m.) – The No. 25 Crimson got off to a hot start, blowing out UNH on the road in the season opener last weekend. The Bears opened with a hard-fought 17-10 over New Haven on the road. Now, both teams open up Ivy League play on national television Friday night (ESPNU) looking to make an early statement.
Saturday 9/26
Virginia Tech @ BC (2:00 p.m.) – The Eagles are 2-1, but an ugly 22-16 win at home against Maine last weekend has fans feeling uneasy. Now, ACC play starts with the Eagles’ offense still needing to answer quite a few questions on offense. The 3-0 Hokies visit on Saturday under first-year head coach James Franklin. BC is a 14.5-point underdog at home, but weather could play a major factor in evening things out between both teams.
UConn @ Miami (Ohio) (3:30 p.m.) – Coming off a huge bounce-back win (48-20) on the road against Southern Miss, Jason Candle’s Huskies head back out on the road for another very winnable game against a MAC team in Miami of Ohio.
UMass @ Sacramento State (9:00 p.m) – Can the Minutemen keeping making history? It’s the first MAC test of the season for Joe Harasymiak’s team after going 3-0 for the first time since 2007. UMass fans believe this team can genuinely compete for a MAC title now, this would be a big first step in that direction.
Holy Cross @ Lafayette (12:30) – The Crusaders had their best performance of the season last week in a loss to Yale, but Dan Curran’s crew is still 0-4. A difficult road test against a Patriot League rival awaits.
URI @ NC A&T (4:00) – No. 21 URI took a beating last week on the road against Stony Brook. With teams now circling the two-time defending CAA champs on the schedule each week and QB Devin Farrell most likely out for the year, it’s going to be a tall task for the Rams to remain in the Top 25 throughout the season.
UNH @ Sacred Heart (12:00) – Two teams desperately looking to build some momentum face each other on Saturday when the 1-3 Wildcats travel to Connecticut to face the 0-3 Pioneers in what’s now going to be a CAA rivalry for years to come.
Maine @ Elon (2:00) – The Black Bears (1-3) have lost three straight games after their impressive season-opening win against Towson. But, Maine also put quite a scare into BC last weekend, nearly upsetting the Eagles in Chestnut Hill. Elon is currently 3-1 and will provide a stiff test for a Maine squad still trying to find consistency.
Stonehill @ Ohio (3:30) – Coming off a blowout loss against UMass, things don’t get any easier for the 1-3 Skyhawks as they travel to face an FBS MAC opponent in Ohio.
New Haven @ Merrimack (1:00 p.m.) – In its second year as an FCS program, New Haven (1-3) nearly upset Brown last week at home. Meanwhile, Merrimack (1-3) gave No. 3 Tarleton State an early scare in the first half before the hosts pulled away. This is an intriguing matchup between two programs trying to find their footing.
Yale @ Cornell (1:00 p.m.) – The No. 19-ranked Bulldogs put on a show against Holy Cross last weekend, beating the Crusaders in their season opener 38-28 on the road. Dante Reno had 454 yards passing with five touchdowns, while Jaxton Santiago had 12 catches for a whopping 234 yards and two touchdowns. Lucius Anderson had nine grabs for 155 yards and two scores
