Listing the Patriots off-season additions in order of potential impact

The New England Patriots entered the 2025 offseason with a clear directive: rebuild and inject talent across the roster, particularly on offense. With a new coaching staff led by Mike Vrabel and significant cap space, they’ve made several key additions through both free agency and the NFL Draft. Here’s a look at the free agents and rookies poised to make the biggest impact for the Patriots in 2025:

Free Agents Expected to Make a Splash

The Patriots were active in free agency, addressing critical needs on both sides of the ball.

1. Stefon Diggs, WR: Despite his future with the team being potentially in doubt, Diggs is without a doubt, the biggest acquisition for the Patriots this off-season. After years of struggling to find a true No. 1 receiver, Diggs provides an immediate, proven threat. If he remains healthy and his buy-in level is high, he’s expected to be the focal point of the passing game and dramatically elevate the offense for second year quarterback Drake Maye. His presence alone will open up opportunities for other receivers and the running game.

2. Milton Williams, DT: The Patriots invested heavily in their defensive line by signing Milton Williams. He brings a strong pass-rushing ability and can disrupt the run game from the interior. His versatility to play inside and outside in multiple alignments will be a significant asset to Vrabel’s defense, bolstering an already solid defensive front alongside Christian Barmore.

3. Harold Landry III, OLB: Harold Landry III joins the Patriots to provide a much-needed boost to their edge rush. With a history of making big plays and fitting well into Vrabel’s defensive schemes, Landry is expected to be a consistent pressure generator off the edge. His addition will complement pass rushers like Keion White, K’Lavon Chaisson and Anfernee Jennings well, creating a more formidable pass rush.

4. Carlton Davis III, CB: Bolstering the secondary, the Patriots brought in veteran cornerback Carlton Davis III. He’s a physical corner who can match up against top receivers and will provide a reliable presence opposite Christian Gonzalez. His experience and ability to play press coverage will be crucial in a division with talented passing attacks.

5. Robert Spillane, LB: A high-volume tackler, Spillane adds a critical playmaking presence to the second level of the Patriots’ defense. His ability to rack up tackles, contribute with tackles for loss, and even defend passes will make him a significant factor in run support and short-to-intermediate pass coverage.

6. Morgan Moses, OT: Addressing the offensive line was a priority, and signing veteran right tackle Morgan Moses provides a stable presence. His experience and reliable play will be vital in protecting Maye and creating running lanes for the Patriots’ ground game.

Rookies Primed for Immediate Impact

The 2025 NFL Draft saw the Patriots make some foundational picks, particularly on offense, aiming to build around Maye.

1. Will Campbell, OT (1st Round): Drafted with the No. 4 overall pick, Campbell is expected to immediately step in and solidify the crucial left tackle position. The Patriots’ offensive line has been a weakness, and Campbell’s talent and toughness are seen as essential to protecting Maye and improving the entire offensive unit. His ability to hold down the blindside will directly influence the success of the passing game.

2. TreVeyon Henderson, RB: The Patriots invested in their backfield with Henderson. He is an explosive playmaker who can complement Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson well. Henderson’s ability to create big plays and contribute in the passing game will add another dimension to the Patriots’ offense and help alleviate some of the workload on Stevenson. His pass-blocking ability also makes him a versatile weapon.

3. Kyle Williams, WR: Despite being a third-round pick, Williams has already impressed in OTAs and could carve out a significant role. With Stefon Diggs’ injury history and the Patriots’ need for young receiving talent, Williams’ speed, route-running versatility, and ability after the catch could see him climb the depth chart quickly and become an unexpected key contributor in Josh McDaniels’ offense.

4. Joshua Farmer, DT: Based on what we have seen so far in rookie mini-camp and OTA’s, Farmer is making a difference as the third defensive tackle in the Patriots rotation. Farmer gives the defensive line some gusto as a pass rusher and as a player who absorb double teams inside.

5. Bradyn Swinson, EDGE: Swinson was a great value pick in the fifth round and has the physical tools to carve out a role for himself as a potential situational pass rusher in Vrabel’s scheme.
