LSU wide receiver Kayshon Boutte is the first Patriots draft pick to sign his rookie contract.
Boutte became the first of the 12 Patriots draft picks to sign his rookie deal this week according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss. Reiss reported on Thursday that the expected terms of Boutte’s deal is four years, $4.027 million
Boutte was dominate his first two seasons at LSU, scoring 14 touchdowns between 2020 and 2021. However, Boutte’s production tailed off last season after Brian Kelly took over. Between issues with Kelly and some off field issues, His production slipped. He caught 48 passes for 538 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Boutte went from a potential day one or two pick to a day three pick. He is ultimate boom or bust prospect. The Patriots are hoping that he is motivated and willing to bounce back.
If he is, Boutte is your quintessential power slot in today’s game. A quality route runner who strong hands who can make plays in the short and intermediate passing game.
The Patriots have enough depth at receiver that they don’t necessarily need Boutte to be a difference maker this season but moving forward, the team clearly sees him in their plans. It is on Boutte to make the most of his opportunity.
