Jim Mora announces some reshuffling of UConn coaching staff

As we reported a few weeks back, Pryce Tracy is on board as UConn’s newest passing game coordinator, which the school made official with a release on Tuesday.

Also in that release were a few other coaching moves made by Mora, further expanding the depth of the staff and allowing his kids to have all sorts of knowledge and experience at their disposal, while still keeping things together for the sake of continuity.

Mora announced that Ted Hefter has joined the UConn and will serve as a senior offensive analyst working with the quarterbacks. Hefter was the William & Mary quarterbacks coach last season after serving as the Dayton passing game coordinator and QB coach in 2023. Prior to joining Dayton’s staff, Hefter began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Western Michigan (2021-22) working with quarterbacks and as a defensive assistant.  Hefter was a team captain as a quarterback at W&M (2016-21).

UConn also announced that offensive coordinator Gordon Sammis will hand over offensive line coaching duties to assistant coach Christian Pace, who heads into his fourth season with Huskies. Pace was elevated to assistant coach n 2023 and coached the tight ends the last two years.

Cole Peterson – who has been an offensive analyst under Coach Mora – is now taking on assistant coaching duties and he’ll work with the tight ends this season. Other additions to the UConn staff include Matt Leifheil as an assistant special team’s coach, Nate Atkins as an assistant defensive line coach and Rante Jones as a player personnel assistant/defensive analyst.

Mickey Grace – a defensive analyst the last three seasons – is moving into a Director of Player Development role and will also be a ‘pass rush specialist.’  Lastly, Tayler Riddick will take over as the director of football operations.

Mora continues to blend both his roster and his staff with the right mix of young and old and the Huskies are set for another special season after a historic one for the program in 2024.
