The Los Angeles Rams shocked the NFL world yesterday by firing Jeff Fisher. The move came after a humiliating 42-14 loss to the Falcons on Sunday.
The Los Angeles Rams have decided to fire head coach Jeff Fisher, two weeks after giving him a two year extension.
While the firing might be a surprise to some given owner Stan Kroenke’s blind loyalty to Fisher, it shouldn’t be. The Rams have been terrible the past nine weeks, especially on offense.
At 4-9, the Rams had no choice but to fire Fisher. The players had tuned him out and it was evident by their uninspired play on the field. Couple that with declining attendance and lack of PSL sales and it’s obvious that it was time for a change in Los Angeles.
Fisher finished his career as Rams coach with a 31-45 record. Fisher’s best season was in 2012, his first season as head coach when he led the Rams to a 7-8-1 record.
It’ll be interesting to see what direction the Rams go in. Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh has already been linked to the job but unless the Rams are willing to give him full control of football ops and upwards of $10 million a season, he’s not leaving Ann Arbor.
Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan would be more realistic targets. The Rams need to develop quarterback Jared Goff so they will more than likely look to hire an offensive coach.
Either way you slice it, anyone would be an upgrade over Jeff Fisher right now in Los Angeles. The Rams had to make a change and it is about time they did. It was a long time coming.
