According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Rhamondre Stevenson has a high ankle sprain and is expected to miss a few weeks. If that is the case, then the Patriots should shut him down for the season.
What is the point of bringing him back with five weeks left in the season? The Patriots aren’t playing for anything so why rush Stevenson back in the prime of his career? It makes no sense.
After a career season in 2022, Stevenson’s production has dipped dramatically. Coming into last weekend, he had 619 yards rushing and 4 rushing touchdowns. He has been averaging four yards a carry.
With Stevenson out, the Patriots will be relying more on veterans Ezekiel Elliott and Ty Montgomery. Veteran JaMycal Hasty May also be elevated off the practice squad for tomorrow night’s game against Pittsburgh.
The Patriots could also use Malik Cunningham in the running game more assuming he is active and has a package installed designed to use him.
Either way, there is no reason to rush Stevenson back. This is a lost season. Why risk further or injury or damage. Let him heal and get ready next season.
