Instant Analysis of the Patriots signings, DT Khyiris Tonga, QB Josh Dobbs and WR Mack Hollins

The Patriots shopping spree continued late this afternoon and into the evening. New England signed defensive tackle Khyiris Tonga, veteran quarterback Josh Dobbs and wide receiver Mack Hollins.

Tonga is a 28-year-old defensive tackle that reportedly signed a one-year, $2.7 million deal. He was a seventh round pick of the Chicago Bears out of BYU in 2021. 

Tonga appeared in 13 games, last season for the Arizona Cardinals, including one start. He recorded 22 tackles. 

The 6’3 338 pound Tonga is a depth piece and a short yardage, goal line specialist. He will was the second defensive tackle signed today behind Williams. 

Dobbs is a veteran signal caller who should provide some good experience and a sounding board for Drake Maye and Joe Milton. Dobbs signed a two-year, $8 million dollar deal. $3.8 million of it is guaranteed. 

The 30 year old Dobbs started a pair of late-season games for the Titans in 2022, when Patriots coach Mike Vrabel was the head coach in Tennessee. The Patriots will be the ninth team he has played for. 

Dobbs has thrown 17 touchdown passes, 15 interceptions and has thrown for 3,281 yards in his career. 

The mercurial Hollins signed a two-year, $8.4 million dollar deal. The deal could be worth as much as $10.4 million. 

The 31 year old Hollins spent last season with the Bills catching 31 passes for 378 yards and 5 touchdown catches. He averaged 12.2 yards per catch. For his career, Hollins has caught 162 passes for 2,069 yards and 15 touchdown receptions.

The 6’4 220 pound Hollins played collegiality at North Carolina. He played for Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels with the Raiders in 2022. The Patriots are his sixth team.

Hollins is well known for not wearing shoes and eating with his hands. He also has a huge Tik Tok following with over 197,000 followers. He will provide some production on the field and some character in the locker room. He will be an interesting player to cover and that is putting it mildly.
