High School: What We Learned: Milton Academy 21 St. Sebastian’s 7

MILTON — It was a beautiful Saturday for football at Milton Academy, as the host Mustangs rolled to a 21-7 victory over St. Sebastian’s. This Milton team has the look of a contender for the Independent School League title, while St. Seb’s still has some work to do.

Let’s take a closer look at Milton’s win . . .

— Milton should have one of the best offensive lines in the ISL. The group of Ryan McGurn, Dan Rosenberg, Brady Earle, Duncan MacDonald, and Jack Wilson dominated play for Milton Saturday. It is a big line, but also a pretty athletic one, too. St. Sebastian’s just did not have an answer for this group. We are not exactly sure where Milton fits in the ISL pecking order yet, but the line should keep the Mustangs competitive.

— Running back Luke Thorbahn could be one of the league’s best, as well. Although Thorbahn was quick to credit his success to the line, the running back deserves a healthy amount, as well. There were a couple big runs for Thorbahn that were called back due to penalties. Even so, Thorbahn had over 130 yards rushing. Even when the Arrows knew he was getting the ball, they could not stop him.

— St. Sebastian’s hass a good one in quarterback Braedan Donovan. Although he was under intense pressure all day, Donovan had a solid outing. He has ideal size at 6-foot-6, and he is athletic enough to hurt you with his feet, as he had one 24-yard run in the third quarter. Even though the offense hit some rough patches against a good Milton defense, Donovan proved to be a dangerous signal-caller all afternoon.
