Harvard announced Andrew Aurich’s first staff yesterday. The Crimson are currently in spring football but the university made all of the coaching hires official yesterday.

Aurich retained Scott Larkee as defensive coordinator and also gave him the title of associate head coach. Offensive coordinator Mickey Fein was also retained and given the title of assistant head coach.

Former offensive coordinator Joel Lamb, a Harvard graduate is also staying on staff as Assistant Head Coach/Director of Recruiting Strategy and Alumni Engagement. Personally, I have known Joel for a long time and I couldn’t be happier for him.

Ryan Crawford is also an assistant head coach and will coach the defensive backs. Steven Williams also has the title of assistant head coach and he will coach the special teams.

Jim Jackson returns to the area as the new Crimson Tide offensive line coach. Jackson was co-offensive line coach and run game coordinator at UMass under Walt Bell from 2018 to 2020.

Logan Johnson will coach the defensive line while Drew Jacobs will coach the safeties. Cinjun Erksine will handle the tight end duties.

One familiar name is Laz Mitjans Jr. Laz is the son of former Brookline, Framingham and Algonquin head coach Laz Mitjans. It is a well known coaching name in the area. I have known Laz Sr for a long time.

Overall, Aurich has assembled a good staff. Keeping Larkee, Fein and Lamb were great moves. He filled out the rest of the staff with good, experienced coaches.

Harvard Football is in good hands. The Crimson will be well coached.
