The last time Harold Landry battled through the dreaded dog days of training camp in New England, he was wearing a gold helmet and living in Chestnut Hill.
Now, as a primary free agent signing for the Patriots, Landry has made his mark already in camp with his play, specifically his speed off the edge.
On the eve of training camp for his former Eagles, Landry reminisced about those days over by The Res.
“Honestly, to me the best time is the summertime out here. Like, I loved coming out here, training at summer camp at BC,” he said after a tough, sweltering practice on Tuesday in Foxborough. “It’s beautiful over there this time of year, so I have nothing but fond memories about the summer at BC.”
There’s sure to be many more memories created for the Landry family as they head back to campus and Alumni Stadium over the next few years, but for now, there’s two vivid ones that stand out.
“Probably my whole junior year when I led the country in sacks and meeting my wife there,” Landry said.
Learning a fairly new system and new teammates, while also getting reacquainted with the area isn’t easy and is quite time consuming, which means Landry hasn’t had a chance to meet the current BC team yet.
Soon, though.
“Not yet. I’ve been in contact, I’m looking at which games I’m gonna go to this year, but I can’t make it over there right now. But, I’m definitely going back to some games this year, for sure.”
The BC NFL fraternity isn’t a big one, but it’s an extremely talented one that has an immense sense of pride. Asked whether or not he speaks with other former BC players in the NFL about the respect level from non-BC guys in the league, Landry said those conversations do happen from time to time and there’s still not enough.
“Yeah, every now and then. I think people kind of sleep on the BC program, but if you really look at it and you look at the guys in the league that have come from BC, there’s a lot of really talented, top guys in the league that came from BC.
“People need to put respect on the Eagles.”
Landry now has a unique chance to kill two birds with one stone, supporting the 2025 team nearby, while (hopefully) dominating for the pro team that was in the heart of its dynasty the last time he was in the area.
