Gambling is Legal in Massachusetts. What to “Bet On” for 2023 Patriots

Tuesday marked the beginning of legalized live sports betting in Massachusetts.

For many gambling enthusiasts, this day has been a long time coming. Massachusetts, one of the most sports crazed states in the nation, joins a long list of states with legalized gambling. For Patriots fans, there will still be some wait as official odds/ lines have not come out for the 2023 season, though there is some action on the free agency and draft front. Although not official, here are some things you should “bet” on with the Patriots next season:

  1. The Patriots will have a top 12 scoring offense in 2023. New England was seventh in points per game in Mac Jones’ rookie year under Josh McDaniels. They slid to 17th in 2022, though even that number is inflated due to the Patriots leading the league in defensive touchdowns and adding in a special teams score. In 2023, they will be back much closer to 2021 form thanks to the hire of Bill O’Brien as offensive coordinator and upgrades on the roster this offseason.
  2. Josh Uche will have double digit sacks. Uche had 11.5 sacks in 2022, all of them coming from October 30th It is possible that it could be a Mark Anderson 2011 flash in the pan season, but Uche is just coming into his athletic prime and finally looked comfortable playing in the Patriots defense alongside Matthew Judon. Expect another double-digit sacks season from him, albeit over the course of 17 games and not just two months like last year.
  3. Kendrick Bourne will have 750+ receiving yards. Bourne had 800 yards in a breakout year in 2021, but found himself largely sidelined in the new look 2022 offense. He managed 35 catches for 434 yards in a frustrating 2022. Bourne has a close connection with Mac Jones that was built in 2021 and he excelled in an offense under McDaniels that is closer to what the Patriots will run with O’Brien.
  4. Christian Barmore will have a major impact. Barmore flashed as a rookie in 2021 before an injury derailed most of his 2022 season. He played well in the final weeks of the season; look for him to parlay that into a strong 2023.
