Former Yale left tackle Jonathan Mendoza has committed to Louisville as a grad transfer. Mendoza announced his commitment on Sunday on his social media accounts.
The 6-foot-9 and 310-pounds, Mendoza was one of the best offensive linemen in the Ivy League this past season. He started all 10 games for the Bulldogs, making four starts at right guard and six at left tackle. Mendoza only allowed one sack, two quarterback hits and 11 hurries in 337 pass block snaps and 662 blocking snaps overall this past season. He was named an All-Ivy League First-Teamer.
Mendoza also earned All-Ivy League honorable mention honors as a junior in 2022. That season he only allowed one sack and seven hurries in eight games, 228 pass block snaps and 476 blocking snaps overall.
As a sophomore in 2021, Mendoza started seven games and only allowed four sacks and 32 total pressures in 786 career pass blocking snaps and 1,504 total blocking snaps.
Mendoza is a Westhampton Beach, N.Y. native. He announced he was entering the portal on November 24th. He visited Louisville shortly thereafter and announced his commitment on Sunday. He is expected to sign next Wednesday, December 20th.
The Cardinals are losing several offensive lineman from this year’s team so Mendoza will have an opportunity to play right away.
He joins former Harvard defensive tackle Thor Griffith who also committed to the Cardinals on Sunday as well.
