Former Springfield Central standout wide receiver Joe Griffin is entering the transfer portal. Griffin was a four star recruit in the Class of 2022. He committed to Boston College in October of 2020.
The 6-3, 213 pound Griffin was a freak athlete in high school and developed into one of the top receiver prospects in his class. He held offers from Boston College, UMass, Notre Dame, Duke, Arizona, Wisconsin and Wake Forest. Griffin ultimately chose to stay home and play for Jeff Hafley.
After developing an increased role as a freshmen, Griffin’s role diminished last season. In two seasons, he caught 43 passes for for 579 yards and 6 touchdowns.
Griffin was on the spring roster but it became apparent pretty early on that he was not participating and did not seem to be in the team’s future plans under Bill O’Brien.
With the portal now open again, Griffin jumped in and he will surely generate interest from several schools. One of those should be UMass who will appeal to Griffin because they are close to home.
Griffin will also be appealing to programs nationally because aside from his freakish athleticism, he also has three years of eligibility remaining but can only play two of those at his next season.
Stay tuned for more update when Griffin commits to his next school.
