Former Holy Cross running back Tyler Purdy commits to James Madison

Running back Tyler Purdy is joining Jacob Dobbs in following former Holy Cross Head Coach Bob Chesney to James Madison.

Purdy made the announcement last night on his social media pages. He joins Dobbs who committed to JMU two weeks ago. Many have speculated that former Crusaders quarterback Matthew Sluka could also join Chesney and his former teammates but Sluka has yet to make a decision.

Purdy is a 5-11 210 pound running back from Chesterfield, Missouri. He is versatile, amassing 943 yards rushing with 5 rushing touchdowns. Purdy also caught 32 passes for 526 yards and 4 touchdowns during his time in Worcester.

Purdy has been an integral part of the Crusaders offense the past two years and figures to play a similar role in new JMU offensive coordinator Dean Kennedy’s system. A system he knows well from his time at Holy Cross.

Purdy gives the Dukes a versatile piece on offense that can play multiple roles. He can line up in the backfield, in the slot or even split out wide. Versatility is a hallmark of Chesney’s offenses at Holy Cross. Purdy in many ways defined that versatility.

Now he brings his skill set to JMU where he will be counted on to complement a talented returning skill group.
