Another day, another Harvard lineman commits to an ACC school. This time it is offensive tackle Jacob Rizy who announced last night that he has committed to Florida State as a graduate transfer.
Rizy, an alum of Staples High School in Westport, Connecticut started the past two seasons for the Crimson earning second team All-Ivy League honors in 2022 and first team All-Ivy League honors in 2023. Rizy started 20 games the past two seasons.
The 6-5, 305 pound tackle can play right or left tackle but can also kick inside to guard. He actually started his career as a center. Long term, guard maybe his best position if he wants to play on Sundays.
Either way, Rizy is versatile, smart and experienced something Florida State was looking for as they try to replace several starters from last season’s 13-1 season.
Rizy spoke to 24/7 after announcing his commitment and explained why he ultimately chose Florida State.
“It was pretty difficult. I think they are very different environments. I thought Northwestern has a great staff and great facilities and so does Florida State. I just think it came down minute details. Just a little more stability at Florida State is kind of what put them over the edge,” Rizy said. “They’ve got guys who have transferred in from FCS schools and have been very successful. So, you know, it’s a possibility at Florida State, which was kind of something that pushed me over the edge. I was very impressed by Northwestern and very impressed by Florida State, so it was tough.”
Rizy has two years of eligibility left but must play the next two years if he wants to use them. He joins former teammate, Hingham’s Spencer Cassell as the second Harvard offensive lineman to commit to a school as a grad transfer. Cassell committed to Rice on December 20th.
