Final CIAC Top 25 Poll

1.Staples (12-1) – Caleb Smith and the Wreckers cap off a magical season with a 21-20 win over West Haven in the Class LL state title game.

2. New Canaan (12-1) – It is state title number 14 for Lou Marinelli during his illustrious career at New Canaan. The way the Rams came from behind to beat rival Darien in the Class L state title game was legendary.

3. North Haven (11-2)- Nighthawks were so impressive in a 21-0 win over WIlton in the Class MM title game. It is back to back titles for North Haven. They have been on an impressive run.

4. West Haven (10-3)- Heartbreaking loss and week for the Blue Devils but the resolve, toughness and championship mettle that Rich Boshea’s team showed will never be forgotten.

5. Greenwich (10-2)- Cardinals started off strong but the injuries finally caught up to them. Strong season nonetheless for Anthony Morello’s team.

6. Maloney (10-2)- The Spartans had a great year. losing two games against Greenwich and New Canaan by a combined five points. Donte Kelly established himself as the most dominate skill player in the state.

7. Darien (9-4)- Impressive first year for Andy Grant at the helm of the Blue Wave. Darien is back and will be a force next season in Class L with Ben Rolapp and a talented senior class back.

8. Daniel Hand (12-1)- 12 game winning streak to end the season for the Tigers. An impressive run. Aidan Dolan rushed for 2,000 yards and cemented himself as one of the best players in the state regardless of class.

9. Bloomfield (11-1)- Bloomfield is back on top thanks to a talented skill group and a motivated senior class. Impressive finish to the season and they avenged a 2021 title loss to Cromwell-Portland.

10. Wilton (10-3)- Terrific season for the Warriors despite running into a talented North Haven team in the title game.

11. Windsor (10-2)- Terrific season for the Warriors. Ran into a great North Haven team in the semi-finals.

12. Masuk (9-3)- Disappointing finish but a solid season nonetheless for the Panthers. Quarterfinal win over Cheshire was a highlight win.

13. Joel Barlow (9-4)- Class SS champs after a thrilling 21-20 win over  Watertown. Barlow’s run to a state title as a seven seed was impressive.

14. Newtown (9-3)- Thrilling 29-28 win over Shelton in the quarterfinals was the highlight of the season.

15. Cromwell-Portland (10-3- Disappointing loss in the Class S final but another solid season for the Panthers.

16. Cheshire (8-3)- Cheshire was a contender all season long and then ran into a good Masuk team in the Class MM quarterfinals.

17. Naugatuck (10-3)- Good season for the Greyhounds but ran into the Darien buzzsaw in the quarterfinals. Chris Anderson has this program moving in the right direction.

18. Shelton (7-4)- Gaels played one of the toughest schedules in the state but were competitive nonetheless.

19. Rockville (11-2)- Tough loss to hand shouldn’t take away from a great season for the Rams.

20. Ansonia (10-2)- Chargers were rolling but injuries down the stretch derailed their season. Still one of the standard programs in the state regardless.

21. Fitch (9-2)- The Falcons only two losses this season were to North Haven. Mike Ellis’ team had a solid season but must replace a talented senior class.

22. Southington (7-5)- Southington’s five losses were to Staples (twice), Maloney, Cheshire and Hall. That’s a tough slate.

23. Holy Cross (8-4)- Dae’sean Graves and a talented freshmen class means the Crusaders will be a force for years to come in Class M.

24. Stamford (7-4)- Memorable turnaround season for Stamford. Plenty to build on moving forward.

25. Fairfield Prep (4-7)- Tough start for the Jesuits but a strong finish bodes well for the future.
