Game Rewind: After a scoreless first quarter, Springfield Central took the game over scoring 18 unanswered point between the second and third quarter en route to a 38-13 win. Springfield Central’s speed was the difference in this game as quarterback William Watson threw three touchdown passes over 30 yards. It was an impressive performance by a team that has been dominate most of the season.
Here are three thoughts on the game.
1. Springfield’s speed was the difference: Springfield Central’s speed was the difference in this game. Duxbury has some good athletes on the back end and yet they couldn’t match up. Springfield Central took advantage by hitting them on four big plays. Springfield Central’s speed is what allowed them to ultimately pull away.
2. Young William Watson was impressive: The freshmen sensation only completed 6 of 19 passes but he threw for 187 yards and four touchdown passes. Watson struggled early on but once he got into a rhythm, he was on point and accurate. It is hard to believe that Watson still has another three years left.
3. Springfield D dominates: Springfield’s defense bent but didn’t break. Duxbury had 221 yards of total offense in the game but Central did a great job of containing Duxbury quarterback Will Prouty. They didn’t allow him to be a factor as a runner and they frustrated him as a passer.
