It’ll be a family affair in Worcester starting in 2025.

Holy Cross head coach Dan Curran will have a familiar face in his meeting rooms and on the sideline next year as his son Ty – who played at Ball State this past season as a freshman – announced he was joining the Crusaders recently.

“I want to thank Coach New and the entire Ball State coaching staff for giving me the opportunity to be a Cardinal,” Ty Curran wrote. “I also want to wish Coach U and all my teammates the best of lick on what I know will be a very bright future for Ball State football. I loved being apart of this program and I have grown so much as a player and person during my time in Muncie, but my heart is calling me home and my home is in Worcester at the College of the Holy Cross.

“I want to thank Coach Schell and Coach Gunnel for giving me this opportunity and I want to let Coach Curran and the rest of the coaching staff know that I promise to give my all for this program and this team. I look forward to being apart of the Sader Tough culture and doing my part to uphold the standard of excellence that exists on The Hill.

“Excited to be a Crusader!”

Coming out of high school (St. Thomas More) Curran was heavily recruited by some pretty elite programs. The 5’10,” 170lb ATH had offers from Ball State, Bowling Green, Bucknell, Charlotte, Fordham, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Memphis, Navy, UNH, URI and Stony Brook. Other schools that showed interest included BC, Columbia, UConn, LSU, Maryland, UMass, Penn State, Rutgers and Syracuse.

“Believe it or not I was not super involved in him coming,” Dan Curran said in a quick interview with NEFJ. “I wanted him to make his own decision. His decision was a little bit of a surprise to me as well. He had a good freshman year at Ball State (and was 1 of 4 freshman traveling this fall as a true freshman and was named scout team player of the year) and really liked the school. Ty was projected to have a big impact next fall as a redshirt freshman, but I think after the head coach who recruited him got fired mid season, it got him thinking of potentially going this route despite the new head coach recruiting him hard to stay. I think he realized he wanted to be able to play in front of his family and friends and I think the fact that he could accomplish that at a school with a great academic reputation, on top of the fact he could do it at a college that his family has a special connection to was the icing on the cake.

“Ironically, Ty had been recruited pretty hard by the prior staff and HC was definitely one of his favorite schools along with Ball State, Bowling Green, and Charlotte coming out of high school. Coach Gunnell and Coach Schell were the ones who recruited him to HC and it probably didn’t hurt that his mother and grandparents wanted him here as well.”
