Damien Harris has a new home. The now former Patriots running back has signed a one year deal with the rival Buffalo Bills.
Harris was drafted by the Patriots in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Alabama. He played sparingly his rookie season, only appearing in one game, a blow out win over the Jets.
In 2020, he played in ten games rushing for 691 yards and two touchdowns. Harris best season as a Patriot was in 2021 when he rushed for 929 yards and a league best 15 rushing touchdowns.
Coming into last season, Harris was projected to be the team’s starting running back but thanks to the emergence of Rhamondre Stevenson and a late season thigh injury, Harris went from splitting carries to being the number two back. He finished last season with 462 yards and three touchdowns.
In total, Harris rushed for 2,094 yards and 20 touchdowns as a Patriot.
Now he heads to Buffalo where he is expected to split carries with second year running back James Cook and be the Bills short yardage and goal line back. A role he excelled in with the Patriots when he was healthy.
After drafting Harris higher than many expected in 2019, it is safe to say that the Patriots got a lot out of the Alabama product. When healthy, he was productive. He had a good albeit short tenure with the team.
