College Football Journal for 2/23/25

Here is this week’s edition of the college football journal. From Boston College, to Holy Cross to UMass, there is plenty to talk about.

Harasymiak and staff make favorable impression with alumni: Joe Harasymiak introduced his coaching staff at the State of the Program event at the UMass Club. By all accounts, Harasymiak and his staff made quite an impression. It was a good start to what should be an interesting spring in Amherst.

UMass announces spring schedule: UMass announced their spring schedule last week. The Minutemen begin spring ball on Monday March 10th. They will go Monday, Wednesday and Friday in week one and then they will go Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday after spring break. The spring game is April 19th.

Cory Robinson target for B.C Defensive Backs opening: According to CBS Sports Matt Zenitz, Boston College is targeting Cory Robinson for their defensive backs opening. Robinson has coached in the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars and the New Orleans Saints. Robinson has also coached in college at Tennessee and Maryland. He is experienced and would be a sold hire this late in the game.

Boston College Mega Camp: Boston College announced that they will be hosting a mega camp. UMass, Harvard, Dartmouth, Holy Cross, UNH, URI, Bryant, Maine, Merrimack, James Madison and Temple are among the schools expected to be. It should be a great event and we plan on covering it.

Holy Cross staff hires: Holy Cross announced several additions to Dan Curran’s staff at the end of last week. Bo Alexander joins the staff as defensive line coach, Weston Elliott, who was an offensive assistant last season is the new running back coach. Elliott of course played quarterback for Curran at Merrimack. Rich Gunnell was elevated to Assistant Head Coach. He will also coach the receivers. Matt Schell will take over as the team’s pass game coordinator in addition to retaining his roles as the tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator. Nicole Vuncanon, who spent the 2024 season as the director of on-campus recruiting, has been elevated to the role of assistant recruiting coordinator.

Crusaders spring schedule set:  Holy Cross announced their spring practice schedule as well. The Crusaders kick off Thursday March 13th and ends with the spring game on April 12th.

Bryant kicks off spring practice this week: Bryant kicks off spring ball on Thursday. After two practices, the Bulldogs will be off for a week for spring break and then return the week after. The Bulldogs will wrap up spring practice at the end of March.

URI spring schedule: The Rams will kickoff spring football a week from Monday on March 3rd. They will conclude spring practice with the annual spring game on April 12th. URI is coming off of a historic 11 win season and a share of the CAA title.

Santos announces staff additions: UNH announced several staff additions on Monday. Jaysen Thompson was hired to coach the defensive line while Isaiah Gilmore will coach the nickel backs. Nick Della Jacono will coach the special teams and the linebackers. Ryan Vanshelven takes over as running backs coach. The Wildcats went through some staff changes but head coach Ricky Santos was able to hire quality replacements.

New Hampshire spring ball: UNH also announced their spring schedule earlier this week. The Wildcats will go later than most schools. They open March 31st and conclude with their spring game on Thursday May 1st. The Wildcats are going after spring break.

Belichick lands Hall: North Carolina got their first commitment out of Massachusetts on Friday when Dexter-Southfield lineman Anthony Hall committed to the Tar Heels. Will Bill Belichick be a factor in local recruiting? It is too early to tell but his reputation in the region resonates with young men and it will help him land prospects. As always, much of North Carolina’s success with local prospects will depend on how long Belichick stays in Chapel Hill.

Stonehill announces regular season schedule m: Stonehill announced their 2025 schedule and there were some interesting early season games. After opening the season  at Sacred Heart, the Skyhawks return home for their home opener against Lafayette and then hit the road to Orono, Maine to take on the Black Bears. They then return home to host Penn before opening up NEC play. They also play at Yale on October 18th.
