CIAC Week 3 Top 25 poll (Public)

1. Greenwich, Next Game: 9/29 at Danbury

Senior kicker Erick Perino drilled a 42-yard field goal as time expired to give Greenwich the victory over Maloney. Senior running back Ian Kim took charge of the offense, rusing for 62 yards and two scores. Senior linebacker Sebastian Parra continued his dominant season with 5 TFL’s. Greenwich proved they are the best in the state.

2. Cheshire, Next Game: 9/29 at Fairfield Prep

The Rams defense smothered Glastonbury in a 27-0 home victory. Senior Running back Jeffery Gonzalez had a fantastic night- 19 carries for 151 yards and 2 touchdowns. Senior wideout Chris Kobylanski chipped in with a touchdown reception.

 

3. West Haven, Next Game: 9/29 at No. 20 Shelton

The 3-0 Blue Devils make their top 10 debut coming off of a 47-7 victory over Ridgefield. A plethora of running backs combined for five rushing touchdowns, with senior Camren Kemp scoring two of them. The defense had a proficient game as well, forcing the Tigers into three turnovers. 

 

4. Naugatuck, Next Game: 9/29 at Watertown

The Greyhounds running game was the story of their dominant win over St. Paul Catholic. Five different players combined for six rushing touchdowns. Senior quarterback Jett Hall tossed a touchdown to fellow senior Nathan Gendron.

 

5. Maloney, Next Game: 9/29 vs. Simsbury

The Spartans were not able to overcome an incredible performance from quarterback Ethan Nedinsky. The junior finished with 233 yards and 3 touchdowns through the air. Senior ATH Donte Kelly found paydirt again, continuing his torrid start to the ‘23 campaign.

 

6. Southington, Next Game: 9/29 at No. 22 Hall

The Blue Knights suffered an upset defeat by way of Staples. Senior quarterback CJ DiBenedetto had another strong game- 359 passing yards and 3 touchdowns. Senior wideout Rashard Williams Jr. was unstoppable all game. He finished with 190 receiving yards and a score.

 

7. Ansonia, Next Game: 9/30 at Waterbury Free Academy

The Chargers continue to show why they are the Class S favorites. Junior quarterback Matteo Sorrentino led the team to victory by passing for 203 yards and two touchdowns. The defense stifled the Watertown offense all night long.

 

8. Darien, Next Game: 9/29 at Norwalk

The Blue Wave defense shutout a stout Fairfield Prep offense in a 10-2 victory. The offense was held at bay for the most part, but was able to do just enough to secure the W.

 

9. New Canaan, Next Game: 9/29 at No. 16 Ludlowe

The Rams were able to defend home field against a tough Windsor squad. Junior quarterback Luke Robinson completed 80% of his passes for 2 scores. Senior ATH Cooper Smith led the charge with 120 all-purpose yards. Senior wideouts Luke Reed and Alex Benevento each hauled in a passing touchdown.

 

10. Staples, Next Game: 9/30 at Westhill

The Wreckers snuck past Southington on the road to get their season back on track. Senior quarterback Caleb Smith carried the offense by scoring all 5 Staples touchdowns. He had 3 scores passing and 2 rushing.

 

11. Wilton, Next Game: 9/29 at Warde

The Warriors were victorious once again, but finally surrendered points. Junior quarterback Joey Hagerty passes for 2 scores. Right before half, Wilton was able to block a Platt punt attempt and take it back to the house.

 

12. North Haven: Next Game: 9/29 at Notre Dame-West Haven

The Nighthawks had one of the best rushing performances in CIAC history. The team totaled 58 carries for 563 yards and 8 touchdowns. Three backs rushed for 100+ yards respectively: Senior Camren Thompson and juniors Mastroianni Joe & Cretella Christopher.
