Catholic Memorial’s Flannery finishes off long journey as a champion again

FOXBOROUGH- Catholic Memorial senior quarterback Kise Flannery did not know what to expect when he transferred to Catholic Memorial prior to his junior season.

A relative unknown as the back-up quarterback at B.C High, Flannery wanted a change. He wanted the opportunity to start and he wanted to challenge himself so he transferred to Catholic Memorial to play for legendary coach John DiBiaso.

The move has paid off for Flannery as he went on to lead the Knights to a 24-2 record and back to back Division 2 state titles the past two seasons. It was the culmination of a long journey to becoming a champion.

Flannery says he did not know what to expect when he transferred to Catholic Memorial but he knew he had to trust those around him.

“Going into my junior year, I was a bit scared. I was coming off an injury and I knew there were a lot of expectations. I just trusted the people around me and let them guide me and help me to get to where I am now.”

It was important for Flannery to end his career on a high note and he certainly did that. He rushed for 81 yards on 16 carries and scored two rushing touchdowns. He threw for 69 yards in the 41-14 win over Bishop Feehan.

Flannery said after the game that two early season losses for the Knights motivated him and his teammates.

“Those two [losses] were really like fuel for us for the rest of the year,” said Flannery. “We wanted to finish off on the right note, so it’s great to be able to do that.”

Flannery finishes his high school career as one of the best signal callers in the state. Earlier this spring he announced he was committing to Harvard to continue his academic and athletic career. At the time, Flannery told me that his time at Catholic Memorial prepared him for the rigors of playing college football at an elite academic institution like Harvard.

“Being in a winning program has pushed me harder than ever and helped prepare me for what is ahead of me. Being around such high level athletes at all times we, push each other to do better everyday. Honestly, seeing the success of the team and my teammates motivates me to continue working hard and helps me grow as a person and player.”

That statement exemplifies who Kise Flannery is and why he will no doubt continue to be successful in college career as well.
