The Mike Vrabel era in New England began with a brutal reality check. A 20-13 season-opening loss to the Las Vegas Raiders at Gillette Stadium was a lesson that the Patriots still have a long way to go. It was the kind of football that will not fly in New England anymore. The Patriots showed flashes of potential, but ultimately, a lack of discipline and anemic second-half offense sealed their fate.

The Patriots kicked off the 2025 season with a disappointing 20-13 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. The Patriots fell behind 7-0 early and battled back to tie the game and take a 10-7 lead at the half. The second half was a different story as the Patriots offense went stagnant and only mustered a field goal. The defense racked up four sacks, including 2.5 from Harold Landry but it was not to slow down Raiders quarterback Geno Smith who threw for 362 yards in the win.
