We had a chance to catch up with quarterback Peter Bourque who announced on Sunday that he will be attending Tabor Acadamy in the fall. Bourque will be reclassifying to the Class of 2027.
The 6-4 190 pound Hingham native spent the past three seasons at Catholic Memorial where he played in the 2022 Division 2 Super Bowl win versus King Philip and started last season. Bourque made the decision to transfer and play for Tabor Coach Jeff Moore who took over prior to last season.
I chatted with Bourque about why he made the decision to transfer and what he is looking forward to in terms of playing for Moore at Tabor.
NEFJ: After you left CM, what were you looking for in a school?
PB: “I never thought I would leave CM. I have great memories with my teammates and coaches there. It was a hard decision, but the opportunity at Tabor was too good to ignore. The strong academics, great football and lacrosse, and the ability to board drove my decision.”
NEFJ: What appealed to you about Tabor Academy? Why was the school the right academic fit?
PB: “When I had the chance to check out Tabor Academy after the season, I was really impressed. I loved the location, the campus, and everything they have to offer. Small classes, great academic resources and very hands-on teachers.”
NEFJ: Why did you want to play for Coach Jeff Moore?
PB: “Coach Moore was also a big part of my decision. Being able to see what Coach Moore is doing at Tabor, and all the support from the Tabor community, was very appealing. I have known about Coach Moore for years. His track record speaks for itself. Also, a QB I work out with at M2 QB Academy with Mike and the guys, Dante Reno, played for him. It was great to watch how they attacked the field vertically and horizontally. Coach Moore built St Thomas More into a national program and brought Loomis Chaffee to the top of the NEPSAC. There are very high expectations at Tabor now as well. We have a roster filled with great guys and excellent football players with big goals.”
NEFJ: What are you hoping for from a developmental standpoint moving forward? Obviously you made the move because you think it can help you get better.
PB: “Developmentally I think Tabor will be great for me. Tabor will help me mature both academically and athletically. My goal is to reach my highest potential as a student and athlete and I know that Tabor Academy is the right place for that. I cannot wait to get started there.”
Tabor returns a lot of talent on offense, specifically running back Hugo Djeumeni and wide receiver Kaiden Drinkwater. Bourque will once again get the chance to play with a talented skill group and shine. He is a terrific pick up for Coach Moore and the Tabor program.
