I recently had the opportunity to talk to former Leavitt standout quarterback Noah Carpenter. The Maine Gatorade Player Of the Year is a multi-time state champion and one of the top signal callers in New England.
We talked about everything, from his time at Leavitt to getting his opportunity to play Division One football and baseball at the University of Maine.
Here is some of what Noah had to say.
NEFJ: You were one of the best dual threat quarterbacks in New England the last three years. What do you attribute to your success as a player?
NC: “Just being a hard worker not only on the field but off as well. I believe that I put more work into the game than the other opponents, as I feel as if I want it more than they do. My teammates also do a great job at holding me accountable for playing to my absolute best every game. Another thing I feel that makes me successful on the field is just the coaches always properly preparing me for the next opponent.”
NEFJ: What do you love about playing football. What attracted you to the game as a kid?
NC: “Football has always been one of my favorites as it is probably the most team sport. Not one guy can win a football game by himself. I also love the connections i have made over my years with lifelong friends. The game caught my attention when I was younger as I always looked on television watching some of my favorite players play in the NFL, and always showing up to Leavitt High School games.”
NEFJ: When you are not playing football, what do you like to do off the field?
NC: “When I am not playing football, I love spending time with my friends. I like hunting and fishing and anything to do with the outdoors. I also enjoy playing baseball during the spring. Just anything to keep me busy.”
NEFJ: You will be continuing your playing career at Maine. How does it feel to have the opportunity to play division one college football and baseball in your home state?
NC: “Being able to stay in my home state and play division one ball has always been a dream of mine. Just being a kid from a small town just proves to anyone that you can follow your dreams. I’m truly blessed to be in the position i am in today but I understand I could not be in this position without my family, teammates, and coaches.”
NEFJ: Reflect on your career at Leavitt. What will you remember the most? What will you take away from the experience?
NC: “Playing at Leavitt has been the best four years of my life. Just growing up with what felt like a family is truly unmatched. A moment I will never forget is definitely the TA game were we were down by a good amount going into halftime. Just to see the team come together and pull one out just shows how much work we have all put in. The thing i’ll take away the most is just whenever something goes bad fall back on your teammates and just work together. Don’t get upset and give up, dig deep as a team and give it all you got.”
