Former Hanover High School star quarterback Ben Scalzi announced today that he is committing to Merrimack. Scalzi made the announcement on his social media.

Scalzi had a monster senior season throwing for 2,628 yards and 41 touchdown passes. The dual threat quarterback could beat defenses in the pocket and with his feet. He led Hanover to the Division 5 Super Bowl.

Scalzi has always dreamed about playing Division One football and now he gets his shot.

“Playing division 1 football has always been a dream of mine. When I got the opportunity to play for Merrimack, I knew I wanted to go there. Only an hour drive from home and a great campus, I knew this was the school I wanted to attend.”

Scalzi says that new head coach Mike Gennetti and the staff really sold him on the school and playing for them.

“Being able to attend a spring practice and talk to multiple coaches individually really sealed the deal for me. They were honest with the vision they had for me, and I appreciate that.” Scalzi added: “Coach Gennetti has been at Merrimack for a long time and his staff is one that I can see myself playing for. The practice had great energy and compete and I can’t wait to be involved.”

Scalzi is relieved to be done with the process and he is excited to finish off his senior and start getting for college.

“Yes, for sure. Finally knowing where I’m going next year is huge for me. Now I can focus on ending the school year off strong and also get ready for the season.”

Merrimack kicked off spring ball on February 27th. They are scrimmaging this Saturday morning.
