Former Central Catholic and current Brunswick School quarterback Blake Hebert surprised the New England football community on Monday afternoon by announcing that he is de-committing from Clemson and committing to Notre Dame.
Hebert originally committed to Dabo Swinney and the Tigers on June 16, 2023 but changed his mind and decided to commit to the Irish. Hebert thanked the Clemson staff on X for recruiting him.
“I’d like to start by thanking the Clemson coaching staff as well as the program itself for all they have done for me.” Hebert continued: “With that being said, I have chosen to withdraw my commitment and will spend my next 4 years at another institution.”
Moments later, he announced his commitment to Marcus Freeman and the Irish. We reached out to Hebert to find out why he made the decision. Hebert said it was simple.
“ND holds a very special place in my heart.” Hebert called the commitment to Notre Dame a “40 year decision.”
As far as when he’s been told he will get the opportunity to compete to play, Hebert says he looks forward to working and getting better.
“I am really just looking forward to getting there, competing, and getting better everyday. Whenever i am ready to play, I will play.”
The four-star quarterback stands at 6-3 215 and is one of the top dual threat quarterbacks in the Class of 2025. He held 17 total offers. Aside from Clemson and Notre Dame, Hebert also held offers from Boston College, UConn, UMass, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Auburn, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ole Miss, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Purdue and Rutgers.
As to whether or not he made the decision himself, Hebert says it was a family decision.
“It was definitely a family decision but neither my parents nor Cuddy (Brunswick Coach Wayne McGillicuddy) tried to sway me one way or another. I appreciated that a ton.”
The opportunity to jump to Notre Dame presented itself after highly touted Irish commit Deuce Knight flipped his commitment to Auburn. Once that happened, the Irish needed a 2025 quarterback and turned their attention to Hebert.
Hebert spent the first three seasons of his high school career at Central Catholic. He missed most of his junior season after suffering an ankle fracture in the season opener last fall. As first-year starter in 2022, the sophomore signal caller completed 58.3% of his passes for 1,748 yards with 24 touchdowns to one interception. Hebert transferred to Brunswick prior to his senior season.
Hebert has led the Bruins to a 5-0 start thus far this season.
