Brockton officially hires Jailson Silva as new coach

It has been quite the process, but Brockton made it official Saturday. The Boxers have hired Jailson Silva as their next coach.

Silva takes over for Jermaine Wiggins, who was the coach last year, in what became a controversial hire.

Silva was an assistant on Wiggins’ staff, then was chosen as his successor.

However, an individual contested Silva’s hire, and then the union contested that move on behalf of the individual.

That process took months, but eventually, Silva was officially named the coach Saturday.

Now, Silva gets started in the process of turning the Boxers football program around.

Under Wiggins, the Boxers went 3-8 with a largely young team. The only wins last year were over New Bedford, Lawrence, and Durfee. The team suffered blowout losses to Pinkerton Academy, Andover, and Barnstable.

Coming into this year, there is still hope for a turnaround. Most of the starting lineup returns intact, including a huge offensive line, and running back Luke Turco.

Brockton last won state titles or Super Bowls in 2004 and 2005. The Boxers compete in D1 and have a steep hill to climb to get back to the top.
