Boston College Football is continuing to strengthen its operational and recruiting framework under Head Coach Bill O’Brien, officially announcing the hire of Ryan Bartow as the program’s new Assistant General Manager. Bartow joins the Eagles with two decades of extensive experience in recruiting and player personnel, positioning him as a crucial asset alongside recently hired General Manager Kenyatta Watson.
Bartow’s appointment signals a clear priority for the Eagles: an aggressive commitment to talent acquisition and management in the modern era of college football. His expertise is particularly relevant in navigating the evolving landscape of the transfer portal, a skill set he honed most recently as the Senior Director of Player Personnel at Sacramento State.
During his single season at Sacramento State, Bartow was instrumental in crafting the top-ranked FCS recruiting class for 2026, and also guided the Hornets to the highest-rated transfer portal class in the FCS, according to On3. This success demonstrates his ability to evaluate and secure talent across both traditional high school recruiting and the highly competitive transfer market.
The Waupun, Wisconsin, native has established a reputation across multiple Power Four programs. Prior to his time at Sacramento State, Bartow spent four seasons at Florida State as the Director of High School Relations, a role he also held at Syracuse (2020-21) and Oregon (2018). His history of success and his familiarity with General Manager Kenyatta Watson, with whom he worked at Florida State, is expected to create a formidable partnership at The Heights.
In his new role, Bartow will be charged with overseeing the day-to-day operations of the recruiting department, managing prospect evaluation, handling communication with recruits and their families, and coordinating visit logistics. This move will significantly bolster BC’s infrastructure, allowing the coaching staff to focus more intently on developing the players on the roster while the general manager department manages the pipeline of future talent.
The hiring of Bartow completes a significant overhaul of Boston College’s player personnel department, reinforcing the program’s foundation as it seeks to return to consistent success in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
