Former Patriots coach Bill Belichick was back in Massachusetts on Thursday but this time he was recruiting for the University of North Carolina.
As far as we know, Belichick made stops at Xaverian, Catholic Memorial, St. Sebastian’s, Arlington High School and Dexter-Southfield. He offered St. Sebs 2026 offensive tackle Marky Walbridge a scholarship. We will find out tomorrow if Belichick is still in the area. I would imagine if he is, he will make several stops to some of the other top programs in the area that he did not hit up today.
Xaverian Coach Al Fornaro said that Belichick recruiting the area is great for football in Massachusetts and for the recruits in the state.
“It was great for our school and great for our student athletes. Coach Belichick is different than he is portrayed in press conferences after games. He is actually a very genuine and nice man.”
Fornaro added that any Division One program recruiting Massachusetts kids is good for the state.
“Any Division One college program that has generally not recruited the area but now decides to is good for all of our the student athletes in our state.”
Assistant Director of Player Personnel Andrew Blaylock joined Belichick on the trip. Belichick has been active in recruiting since taking the job last month. By all accounts, he has enjoyed his time meeting with coaches and players. Belichick also signed his contract yesterday, which means he will be in Chapel Hill at least one season.
It is not everyday that the greatest coach of all-time stops by your school. It was a great experience for the coaches and players alike. From a recruiting standpoint, North Carolina could become a player in the New England recruiting scene.
