Bill Belichick met with the media yesterday ahead of the team’s first OTA practice since they were stripped of two practices last week by the NFL for violating league rules on the amount of time they can spend with players.
As expected, Belichick did not shed any light on what happened that led to him being fined $50,000 dollars and the team losing two OTA practices.
When asked if he was on board with what Joe Judge was doing, Belichick simply said that he was looking forward to getting back on the field and that what happened was in the past.
Belichick was then asked what it meant to lose the two OTA practices. His response. The players got a “long weekend” out of it.
No one is surprised that Belichick refused to discuss what happened. No one thought he was.
After a handful of questions regarding OTA-gate, the assembled media decided to move on and focus on the first practice they were allowed to attend.
When Belichick was pressed further at the end of the media session, he acknowledged that what happened is on him and that he screwed up.
Hey. At least the media got something. Belichick always takes responsibility for what is happening with the team but he does that on his terms. In other words, he won’t elaborate and he will keep it short.
I suspect this is the last we’ll hear about OTA-gate. At least locally. Nationally however could be a different story.
