If you still weren’t buying into BC making more of a commitment to recruiting in this new wild landscape, there’s another new addition that might change your mind.
On Tuesday night, it was reported that former Mississippi State Assistant Director of Player Personnel Ryan Roberts is going the Boston College staff as the Director of Player Personnel.
Alongside new GM Kenyatta Watson and assistant GM Julian Rowe-Cohen, the BC structure has now taken on the shape of an NFL team, which ultimately, is the only way to compete in today’s lawless college football world.
While we are still waiting to speak with Roberts for an interview (hopefully late this week or early next), I did ask Bill O’Brien about the hire after the team held its 13th spring practice on Wednesday. More specifically, I asked O’Brien whether or not this was another indication that more steps are being taken to solidify BC’s place at the recruiting table.
“Ryan was recommended to me by several people, including some people on our staff,” O’Brien explained. “He’s from this area of the country. He understands this area. He’s very smart. He’s got a lot of experience, specially coming from the SEC. He’s got experience relative to talent evaluation, roster building, rev share, NIL, all that. So, he’s been a really good addition. He just got here this week basically. It’s been good to have him on board, no doubt.
“I would say like, the expansion of the staff is what’s most important. I think we recruit pretty well. I’m not saying we’re perfect in recruiting, but our our batting percentage is pretty good over the first two classes. But, we need more people, more manpower and the administration has allowed us to do that. So, with the addition of Ryan, there will be a couple more people we’ll add in June and things like that. Whether it’s on-campus recruiting help, or obviously off-campus recruiting help – and now, anyone can go out on the road. You can send different people out on the road, which is fantastic.
“So, I think the expansion of that staff has been very helpful to us.”
Considering some of the big, national recruits BC has already had in to visit this spring, and given some of the schools guys committed from during the portal window, the connections BC has with this current set up can only be incredibly beneficial moving forward.
