DANVERS — For decades, St. John’s Prep has come right at opponents with a familiar script. The Eagles run counter, then toss, then counter again, then toss again. MANSFIELD — Trevor Jones and Finn Carley both start on defense for Duxbury, Jones as a defensive back, and Carley as a linebacker. Were it just for those contributions, Jones and Carley would be enough for the Dragons. But as it is now, each player also plays quarterback, and Duxbury coach Matt Landolfi rotates them. What a first weekend. Some interesting results, and a fun way to get going, really all over New England. Not as many top games this weekend, but we will still take a look at some of them. On Sunday, Springfield Central beat Central Catholic, 44-26, in a game suspended from Friday night. Freshman quarterback Jareth Staine threw four touchdown passes, and three different running backs — Ja’Cyion Cox, Preston Longo, and Isaiah Rogers — found the end zone.
