It did not take long for Ansonia to find the program’s next football coach. Two weeks after legendary coach Tom Brockett stepped away, Ansonia hired a familiar face to replace in assistant coach John Mihalko.
A native of Shelton, Connecticut and a graduate of Trinity College, Mihalko, 39, is a currently a history teacher at Ansonia and has served as the program’s offensive line coach for the past 11 seasons. Mihalko has previously coached at Western Connecticut State University and Plymouth State.
He takes over for Brockett who won 215 games and eight state titles including this past season when the Chargers won the Class S state title.
The 47 year old Brockett stepped away from the program to focus on family. He has stayed on as athletic director and played an integral part in the hiring of his replacement.
Ansonia should once again be in the mix for a state title in Class S. They return a solid core of juniors including one of the top lineman in the state in Jacob Romanowski.
Mihalko already being in the program makes this a seamless transition for a program that is built to win now.
