Quick recap of Monday’s Patriots practice

FOXBOROUGH – The preseason finally wraps up this week and on Monday, the Patriots held a lighter practice with a short turn around.

New England will be in Metlife Stadium on Thursday night for the final exhibition game against the Giants, which gives Mike Vrabel and his staff just a couple days to get some corrections made from the Vikings week. It’s also the final true week of evaluations for fringe roster spot guys or veterans that may be wearing Patriots colors for the last few days before being traded or cut.

While not everything was full speed, in a few brief team periods (7-on-7 and red zone) it wasn’t pretty for the offense.

Here’s a quick recap of what went down out on the practice fields behind Gillette:

Team period

Drake Maye: Out to Rhamondre Stevenson; hitch to Hunter Henry; nice ball up the seam for Henry; run stuff for the defense.

Josh Dobbs: Short completion (missed the number on who caught it); deep in to Pop Douglas; no gain on a run by Antonio Gibson.

Red zone (7-on-7)

Maye: Short pass to Pop; pass in the flat to Stevenson; incomplete fade in the end zone for Kayshon Boutte; nice TD in the back of the end zone to Henry.

Dobbs: Hitch to Mack Hollins; PBU for DJ James; bad throw on a fade to Jeremiah Webb; dime to Antonio Gibson in the back right corner against RJ Moten.

Maye: Robert Spillane interception after wrestling away a ball from Henry; throw away (all receivers covered); nice ball for a TD to Boutte against Alex Austin; PBU by Jabrill Peppers on a crosser to Stevenson.

Late game situation team period

Maye: Back-to-back ‘sacks’ for Harold Landry on a little twist/stunt where he shot up the middle untouched; PBU by Austin against Boutte; crosser to Henry (pressure up the middle from Milton Williams may have been a sack); another interception by Spillane on a really poor decision and throw; back-to-back completions to Mack Hollins (Joshua Farmer probably would have had a sack on the second one); PBU in the end zone for Peppers, incompletion in the end zone intended for Austin Hooper.

Vrabel also had the team run some scout looks to prep for the Giants and there was some detailed field goal blocking work mixed in as well.

The Patriots have one more practice on Tuesday before heading to New Jersey on Wednesday.
