FOXBOROUGH – No. 46 in white out behind Gillette Stadium on Wednesday morning might have looked familiar to a lot of people in the crowd, especially BC fans.
Rookie linebacker Kam Arnold was back in the area as a member of the Washington Commanders, getting some looks with the second team defense at times.
Following the joint practice against the Patriots, I caught up with Arnold to see what the day was like for him.
“It was nostalgic,” he said with a big smile. “You know, it was just a little weird not being at BC, but it was cool being back in Boston, seeing the crowd being in this atmosphere and everything. I felt good flying around.”
There were a few familiar faces wearing Patriots jerseys that Arnold got to go against in Jack Conley and Alec Lindstrom.
“That was cool too,” said Arnold. “It’s like…it’s cool seeing familiar faces and stuff. Being with those guys, we used to do it all the time back at school, so it was good seeing them too.”
Sticking with the BC theme, Arnold never got the chance to talk to Harold Landry when he was an Eagle, but appreciated the chance to share a field with him during the practice.
“I never really talked to him before, didn’t really interact with him before, but I had heard of him and watched his game before and stuff,” Arnold explained. “Big fan of him. Players like that, I try to take a little bit from their game and see what I can add into my game. Respect to him.”
While Kam hopes to be staying quite busy in a Commanders uniform, he’ll absolutely be following the 2025 version of the Eagles when the season gets started in a few weeks.
“I’m gonna definitely follow BC football,” he added. “Like, the whole season. There’s still a lot of guys on the team I’m still very close with, very cool with. So, I’ll be texting them and talking to them and stuff. I’ll be following them all season, for sure.”
As far as adjusting to life in the NFL, Arnold believes he’s done pretty well so far.
Heck, he hasn’t been cut yet and we’re three weeks into camp with Friday night’s first preseason game looming, which will unquestionably be a bigger opportunity for him as well.
“I mean, now I’m playing Mike (linebacker) which I was before, so I was just running the defense. But, the main thing was just picking up the calls, the defense and everything, learning the playbook,” he said.
“I felt like I did that well, at a pretty high level. So, now it’s just about studying offense and finding their tendencies and trying to play fast. Make some plays off of pre-snap information and all that.”
