Patriots sign fourth round pick, safety Craig Woodson

The Patriots announced today the signing of fourth-round draft pick S Craig Woodson. Terms of the contract were not announced. 

Woodson, 24, was selected by the Patriots in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft with the 106th overall pick out of California. The 6-foot, 200-pounder, started all 13 games last season and finished with 70 total tackles, 1 interception, 1 fumble recovery and 7 passes defensed.

Woodson figures to play a prominent sub package and special teams role. A multi-year starter at Cal, Woodson was one of the top defensive players in both the Pac-12 and the SCC. Woodson was a two-time honorable All-Pac 12 selection and third-team All-ACC selection in 2024.

Terms of his contract were not announced. According to the NFL rookie wage scale, Woodson’s deal is worth $5.27 million over four years.

The Patriots made an investment at the safety position this off season. Woodson along with Jaylinn Hawkins and Marcus Epps were added to a group that features Kyle Dugger, Jabrill Peppers as well as Dell Pettus, Brenden Schooler and Josh Minkins. Marte Mapu moved to linebacker. The Patriots will have eight safeties on the roster.
