Former Baltimore Ravens Super Bowl champion and 11 year NFL veteran Mike Flynn is the new head football coach at Hamilton-Wenham High School. Flynn was most recently the head coach at Pingree where he compiled a record of 37-8-2.
Flynn spent last season coaching the offensive and defensive line at Masconomet High School. He played his college football at Maine and is in the school’s Hall of Fame.
Flynn has worked with the Pop Warner programs in both Hamilton and Wenham so he is familiar with the kids. It is what appealed to him about the job.
“I think the job was a perfect spot for me. I’ve been involved at the youth program for many years. So I’m personally invested in a lot of the kids and the families in-town. I could not be more excited.”
Athletic Director Craig Genualdo credits Flynn’s reputation as a coach and as his connection to the community as two of the reasons why he was the ideal fit.
“Mike certainly has a pedigree as a player and a coach that positions him to be an excellent football coach no matter where he goes.” Genualdo added: “More than that, Mike has an established connection with our players, an understanding of our community and a passion to create a culture around football at a time that coincides perfectly with our new athletic complex.”
Flynn inherits a program that went 3-8 last season and 1-3 in the Cape Ann League. The Generals beat Ipswich on Thanksgiving, 22-20 to close out a tough season with a win.
When he is not coaching football, Flynn works as a teaching assistant at Miles Rivers Middle School in Hamilton.
