The Patriots host the Seahawks in the home opener. Want to talk about the game, join the New England Football Journal Fan Chat. We are doing it a little different. This is more for people sharing their thoughts during the game than giving updates.

FIRST QUARTER

-Patriots go on offense first and proceed to go three and out. Drive ends on a nine yard sack of Brissett. Left tackle already an issue.

-Seattle goes no huddle and empty early.

-Smith Njigba with two catches already. He could be a match-up problem today.

-Keion White ends the drive. He is a monster. A legitimate boogeyman. Can’t block him one on one.

• Defense will be fine today. The big thing is matching up with Metcalf and Smith-Njigba. Both could be a problem on the back end.

-Brissett magic right there. Offensive line is already struggling in pass pro.

-Run game is a different story thus far. Good start for Stevenson.

-Brissett’s mobility has been a revelation. I don’t care what anyone says.

-Ja’Lynn!!!!! Terrific route and what a throw! 6 play, 80 yard drive for the touchdown! PATRIOTS 7 SEAHAWKS 0

• 56 yard touchdown for Metcalf on the slot fade. That was a blown coverage. Plain and simple. Inexcusable. SEAHAWKS 7 PATRIOTS 7 with 2:50 left in the first quarter.

-Offensive tackles continue to struggle. Seattle’s edge guys are going to have a day.

-Speaking of having a day. Hunter Henry is having a day. You see how much this offense utilizes the position thus far.

SECOND QUARTER

-Gibson running hard on this drive thus far. Nice change of pace.

-Patriots announce Ja’Whaun Bentley is questionable with a shoulder injury.

-Patriots tried to get Stevenson on a linebacker, didn’t work. Next play, they run a shuffle pass to him for 2 yards.

-Drive stalls, Patriots settle for the field goal. Slye connects on the 29 yard field goal. PATRIOTS 10 SEAHAWKS 7. 11:05 in the 2ND QTR.

-Blown coverages have been an issue thus far. Need to get on the same page. COMMUNICATE!

-Seahawks extend drive with the sneak. Defense needs to buck up.

-Seattle’s no huddle has been a problem thus far.

-Seattle runs the slot fade to Lockett, draws the P.I. Next play Zach Charbonnet punches it home and Seattle is back up front 14-10 with the extra point. SEAHAWKS 14 PATRIOTS 10

-Dumb penalty by Witherspoon sets up a nice Y-screen on the next play to Henry for a long gainer.

-Vedarin Lowe is struggling at left tackle. Cannot handle Jones or Mafe.

-Seattle’s undisciplined play is going to gift the Patriots points.

-Syle connects on a 28 yard field goal. 14-13 Seahawks with 2:31 left in the first half.

-Seattle continues to throw swing and bubble screens to trips. Trying to take advantage to Patriots playing 2 1/2 to 3 to trips.

-Defense gets a much needed stop. Pats with a chance at some points with 1:37 left in the half.

-Brissett gets flushed thanks to back side pressure again, Patriots forced to punt. Seattle should get it around midfield.

-4 yard sack credited to Dugger. Big sack as it slows down Seattle’s momentum right before the half.

-Myers ends the first half with a 44 yard field. SEAHAWKS 17 PATRIOTS 13 AT THE HALF.

THIRD QUARTER

-Defense needs to hold here. They can ill-afford to fall behind by two scores.

-HUGE STOP!!!! Patriots needed that. Could ill-afford to fall behind by two scores.

-Lowe’s tough afternoon continues.

-Four point game no need to go for it there. What a punt by Barringer!!!

-Defense with another big stop. Offense needs to respond here. They need a drive.

-Pass protection continues to be an issue for the Patriots. Brissett landed awkwardly there.

-Maye not warming up so Brissett should be good.

-Great open field tackle there by Marcus Jones.

-Patriots incorporating the backs in the passing game a lot today.

-Patriots gashing Seattle in B gap and C gap. Running the ball well on this drive.

-Quarter ends on a whacky Brissett to Henry completion for 11 yards.

FOURTH QUARTER

-Nice opening drive to start the fourth quarter is capped off by a direct snap one yard touchdown run by Rhamondre Stevenson. PATRIOTS 20 SEAHAWKS 17 with 12:43 left in the fourth quarter.

-Patriots get a break on the penalty and then the JSN drop.

-What a run by Gibson!! Patriots with 181 yards rushing on the day.

-Slye’s 48 yard field goal is blocked. Patriots not coming away with any points on that possession is killer.

-Patriots defense needs to buck up here. The problem is, Seattle is practically in Myers range already.

-Patriots defense gets a big stop and forces the field goal. Myers connects from 38 yards and 20-20 with 55 seconds left.

• We’re onto overtime tied at 20-20.

OVERTIME

-Patriots win the toss and promptly go three and out.

• Slot fade rears it’s ugly head gain.

-Myers wins it for Seattle with a 31 yard field goal. SEAHAWKS 23 PATRIOTS 20
