The Eliot Wolf shopping spree continues. Wolf has prioritized re-signing the team’s pending free agents this off-season and the latest is safety Jabrill Peppers who signed a three year, $24 million dollar deal that could be worth up to $30 million dollars.

Peppers has become one of the team’s best defensive players and a leader both on and off the field. He is coming off his best season as a pro finishing with two interceptions, eight passes defended, one forced fumble, a sack and 78 total tackles.

Head coach Jerod Mayo met with the media prior to practice on Friday and talked about the extension. 

“I am very happy for Peppers and for his family, and also for our team and the organization. He really embodies everything that we want on the field, you know, he’s very selfless. He’s out there flying around all the time and it’s good to get that deal done.”

Mayo said he enjoys coaching Peppers. 

“I love it. I love it. I will be honest with you, when he first got here, it was a little bit much for me. But, you know, I do appreciate it. He brings passion, he brings that energy each and every day. He’s one of our best communicators on defense along with Dug (Kyle Dugger) and I feel very good about that safety room as a whole.”

Now the focus will turn to EDGE Matthew Judon and nose tackle Davon Godchaux who are both looking for new deals. Both are practicing despite their status.

Judon talked about his contract situation on Thursday.

“”My signature’s on it, so I got to play on it,” Judon said. “Do I think that’s my value? No. But, again, that’s not up to me. I hope I can continue to play here and be a catalyst to one of the best defenses in the league. If that’s not the case, that’s not the case.”

The Patriots have publicly stated they are willing to discuss each players deal with them. It will be interesting to see if either Judon or Godchaux get an extension.
