The Patriots announced that they have signed second round draft Ja’Lynn Polk.
Polk, 23, was selected by the Patriots in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft with the 37th pick overall out of Washington. The 6-foot-1, 203-pounder played in 41 games in college and finished with 143 receptions for 2,231 yards with 18 touchdowns. Last season, Polk had 69 receptions for 1,159 yards and 9 touchdowns. He began his college career at Texas Tech in 2020 before transferring to Washington in 2021.
Polk has had a strong spring in OTA’s and mini-camp and established himself as a receiver who could contribute as a rookie.
Scheme versatility is a big reason why the Patriots drafted Polk. Vice President of Football Operations Eliot Wolf explained what the team saw in him after night two of the draft.
“He’s a guy that we had our eye on for a while. He’s a really good fit in our offense. He’s really tough, he’s strong, he can run all the routes, play inside-outside. He’s a good blocker. He’s really competitive, both for the ball in the air and as a run-after-catch player. He’s really just kind of a versatile, do-everything type guy. He ran a little bit faster than a lot of people expected, but when you turn the tape on, you see him running by people. So, definitely excited to add him to the mix.”
Polk will have every opportunity to make an impact as a rookie. The Patriots report to training camp the last week of July.
