One of the true top coaches in New England, Andover’s EJ Perry, made it known this week that he is stepping down from his coaching duties.
Hector Longo of the Lawrence Eagle-Tribune broke the news first.
Perry helped Andover earn a strong run of success. In 14 years, Perry won 98 games for the Golden Warriors in one of the toughest leagues in the state, the Merrimack Valley Conference.
The best teams Perry coached were usually great offensively. The Warriors ran a spread offense, but were dangerous both on the ground and through the air.
This past season, Andover went 10-2, with wins over teams like Central Catholic and Billerica, and losses to good teams in St. John’s Prep and Methuen.
Andover won MVC titles in both this past season and in 2022.
Perry will be missed on the sideline, but he can step down knowing he had a positive impact, and that the Andover football program is in better shape due to what he accomplished there.
