Top 50 Patriots Prospects: #5 Malachi Corley, WR, Western Kentucky

Corley finished his Western Kentucky career with 259 catches for 3,033 yards and 29 touchdowns. Corley started 32 games and was a two time All-CUSA performer.

Here is my scouting report on Malachi Corley.

Malachi Corley, WR, 5-10 207 Western Kentucky

Hands: Strong hands, Catches the ball with ease in and outside his frame. Can high point the ball in contested situations. Doesn’t have a big catch radius but he makes the most of what he has.

Patterns: Runs quick, clean routes and he knows how to get open when he is in space. Gets in and out of breaks with ease and has the ability stack corners vertically.

Receive Long & Short: A three level threat that is effective on perimeter screens and crossers in the middle of the field. Can separate after the catch. Competitive and tough. Willing to get involved in the middle of the field and make plays.

Run After Catch: Explosive. Can make defenders miss in space. Has the necessary second gear to make big plays after the catch. Can make defenders miss on perimeter screens.

Blocker: Competitive blocker who is fundamentally sound. Moves well laterally, keeps defenders within his frame and can punch and recoil. has plenty of experience blocking in WKU’s screen game.

Release: twitchy release. uses his entire frame and can separate from defenders at the line.

React to Ball/Crowd: Competitive. Not afraid to mix it up in the middle of the field. He attacks the ball in a crowd. Strong target who can break tackles in a crowd.

Initial Quicks: Explosive initial quickness. Twitchy, gets on defenders quickly and puts pressure on them and their cushion.

Final Report: Corley profiles as a potential number one receiver. He can make plays in all three levels. If the Patriots want him, they may have to take him at 34. Otherwise, they will have to trade back up into the second round to get him. He won’t be there at 68.

Draft Range: 2nd-3rd Round
