Top 50 Patriots Prospects: #20: Roger Rosengarten, OT, Washington

Roger Rosengarten has been a stalwart along the Washington offensive line in the two years. He has played in 33 games, starting 28 of them. He was All-PAC-12 Honorable Mention last season.

Here is my scouting report on Roger Rosengarten.

Roger Rosengarten, OT, 6-5 308, Washington

Initial Quicks: Rosengarten gets the ball with good bend and leverage. He has good feet and he is able to reestablish the line of scrimmage. He gets on second level defenders quickly and can turn and seal them.

Run Block: Gets the off the ball with proper hand placement and runs his feet through contact. Controls defenders and blocks with a low pad level and leverage. Comes off vertical double teams with ease and seals second level defenders.

Pass Block: Sets quick and has good feet. Forces speed rushers wide with his kick set. Stays square, punches and recoils. Does a good job of anchoring down against double moves. Does struggle at times with bull rushers who get inside on him and power him back. Needs to get stronger in his lower half.

Pull & Trap: Rosengarten is a good athlete who moves well laterally. He gets through the hole and can locate and hit a moving target. Gets good movement on trap blocks and goes to the whistle.

Use of Hands: Rosengarten has quick hands and gets them inside on defenders routinely. Control defenders on drive and reach blocks. Does struggle at times to extend on blocks which leads to stalemates.

Strength: Plays with adequate strength but he does struggle against long, nine technique types or thicker five technique types who two-gap.

Explosion: Rosengarten is an explosive athlete who gets in defenders quickly and gets body position. Finishes blocks and plays with a good pop in his pads.

Final Report: Rosengarten has all the physical tools to be a good left tackle in the NFL. He needs to get stronger but the athleticism and the toughness are there. Reminds a lot of Andrew Thomas of the Giants.

Draft Range: 2nd-3rd Round
