Thompson started 37 straight games for the Rams. He was a captain for Head Coach Jim Fleming. He earned First Team All-CAA honors and was a third team All-American. Thompson played in the Hula Bowl and participated in the Patriots local pro day.

Here is my scouting report on Lorenzo Thompson

Lorenzo Thompson, OT, 6-6 305, Rhode Island

Initial Quicks: Thompson gets off the ball with good quickness and does a good job of establishing the line of scrimmage. Can get to the second level quickly and seal second level defenders.

Run Block: Physical run blocker when engaged but Thompson needs to bend more naturally and sustain that posture throughout the block. Does finish single blocks with good balance and goes to the whistle. He needs to be more consistent when blocking in space.

Pass Block: Thompson is long and athletic. He has good feet and can get depth in his kick set. Does a good job of mirroring, punching and resetting. He has shown that he can hold up against speed rushers.

Pull & Trap: Moves well laterally and can be used on counter and trap plays. Needs to improve on locating and sustaining blocks versus moving targets.

Use of Hands: Thompson has strong hands but he doesn’t always violently stick defenders. Gets inside hand placement consistently and gets movement.

Strength: Plays with functional strength and can move the pile but needs to show that he can physically hold up against bigger, stouter defenders.

Explosion: Thompson finishes his blocks. Does a good job of sustaining them but he does have a tendency to fall off of them.

Final Report: Thompson is a prospect with investing a late round pick. He has good size and length, plays with functional strength and could end up developing into a solid player in an offensive line rotation. He has starter potential and could even kick inside. The Patriots worked out Thompson at their local pro day and at the Rhode Island pro day. They are well aware of what he is as a player.

Draft Range: 6th Round-UDFA
