The actual start of the Bill O’Brien era is finally almost upon us.

Early on Wednesday, Boston College officially announced its schedule for the 15 spring practices. The team is on spring break this week, but begin the 2024 season (sort of) this coming Monday at 9:00 a.m.

In his introductory press conference, O’Brien pointed out that this was a “morning program,” meaning the team gets things done earlier in the day so kids can go to classes or study halls throughout the afternoon.

One other interesting nugget that was also revealed is that the full two-hour spring practices will be open to the media. Since I began covering the team in 2019, that was never the case. Both Adazzio and then Hafley limited access a ton, with Hafley giving the media the first half hour of stretching and light positional drills before kicking everyone out.

When O’Brien spoke with us at The Big New England Football Clinic in Newport, RI last weekend, he noted that BC needs the media to positively promote the program and even help with recruiting. This is a big first step considering we now won’t have to guess when trying to report on the team. Instead, the local media will know exactly how things are unfolding every other day. O’Brien is also opening up practices to local high school coaches, as did Hafley.
