Like most of us, Bill Belichick probably watched the AFC and NFC championship games on Sunday. He probably noticed the same thing we did. The two teams that would and advanced to Super Bowl LIV are fast. Really fast!

Belichick knows this first hand having to defend the Chiefs in recent years. He how quickly the complexion of a game can change on one play. Chiefs general manager Brett Veach and head coach Andy Reid have built the Chiefs to win track meets. It’s all about making plays in space and vertically. It might be time for the Patriots to start doing the same thing.

The Patriots lack of speed was abundantly evident this past season. They could not make a big play on the ground or in the passing game. Sony Michel was suppose to add that element to the offense but he looked slow this past season and doesn’t appear to have the breakaway speed to separate in the open field that he had in college.

The closest thing the Patriots have to a speed guy at receiver is Phillip Dorsett. The problem with Dorsett is, he runs a limited route tree and can be inconsistent at times.

Regardless of who the quarterback is next season, Belichick must not only improve the Patriots skill group, he also needs to bring faster skill guys.

The Patriots can no longer dink and dunk their way down the field on 80 yard drives. They need to make big plays moving forward. The best way to do that is to bring in guys that can separate after the catch.

Given how much the Patriots struggled this past season offensively, it is time to change philosophically. It is time for the Patriots to get with the times when it comes to offensive personal. Get faster!
