Bill Belichick did it again. Just when you thought Antonio Brown would never end up in New England, the Patriots signed the mercurial receiver this afternoon to a one year, $15 million dollar deal. 

Brown was released by the Oakland Raiders earlier today after a bizarre string of events over the course of the past month. From issues with his helmet to burning his feet in cryothreapy to bizarre social media posts, Brown had offically gone off the deep end. As a result, the Raiders fined Brown and he asked for his release which they granted him this morning.

I cannot say that I am surprised the Patriots signed Brown. Sure, they have some depth at receiver but Brown is a top three receiver in the league and still in prime. Belichick is well aware that Brown is a diva but he believes in his ability to communicate with players and he believes in the locker room culture that is in place. Belichick believes that he can get Brown to buy in.

Schematically, Brown will have no problem fitting into the Patriots offense. He is versatile in that he can play in the slot and on the line of scrimmage. He is a terrific route runner who has a good feel for identifying space versus zone coverage and has the explosiveness to beat corners and safeties in man coverage. Brown will give the Patriots offense the vertical threat that they lack. Especially on intermediate routes.

The rest of the country will obviously react negatively to this signing and spew even more hate in the direction of the Patriots. Regardless of what anyone thinks outside of New England, Brown is a huge addition and he will make an already good roster even better.

Who would have thought that the Patriots of all teams would have had Michael Bennett, Josh Gordon and Antonio Brown on their roster? It would have been unthinkable five years ago but it shows just how much Bill Belichick wants to win.

Buckle up New England. Antonio Brown is in town and this is going to be a fun ride. I cannot wait for the first time an issue comes up. Like for example, Ben Watson giving Brown the number 84. It is going to be great.
